Liturgical Ministries

Lector: Lectors proclaim the Word of God. Men, women and children serve in this ministry by proclaiming the scriptures to the assembly during Mass or other liturgies. An ideal lector is one who has a strong, clear speaking voice, who has a love for the scriptures, and who is eager to grow in an understanding of the Word of God. A brief training period is required.

Ministers of music include the following:

Cantors: Cantors are singers who proclaim the verses of the Responsorial Psalm and other texts and lead the assembly in song.

Adult Choir: The Adult Choir leads the singing at one Mass per week (usually 9:00 a.m.) The choir also sings for the Easter Triduum, Christmas, Confirmation, and First Holy Communion. Rehearsals are at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. There are no summer rehearsals.

Children’s Choir: The Children’s Choir is open to children from grades 2 through 8. The children sing at one liturgy per month and also for The Mass of the Lord’s Supper-Holy Thursday, First Holy Communion, and for some of the school masses. Children have the opportunity to learn to be cantors through their experience in the Children’s Choir. Please contact Janet Noveske for rehearsal times.

Funeral Choir: The funeral choir is open to all parishioners. It is not necessary to be a member of the adult choir. The members are called when they are needed to sing for a funeral.

Ensemble: The Ensemble is a group of instrumentalists and vocalists who lead the music at the 11:00 a.m. mass every other week.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word: This special program is celebrated at 11:00 mass during Advent and Lent, for children who are in kindergarten through the third grade. During the readings facilitators take the children from mass into a classroom and reflect on the reading in a way that the children will better understand.
